Sock-Knitting Travel Bag (I’m sorta brilliant)

I made a bag a few days ago… It’s been in the works for months in my head… I really wanted a knitting bowl, but anything breakable… in my house… won’t last more than a few days… I wanted something fabric, that could go in my bag, but with something to keep the yarn from getting tangled when I knit 2-at-a-time socks.  But a grommet wouldn’t work, because I want to be able to put in and take out at will, not be attached to the bag til I’m finished or til I cut the yarn. SO I made the perfect sock-knitting travel bag EVER. it has a...

A quilt for Kai

whipped out a UFO and bound it quickly so I could gift it to a surprise arrival. (Our friends got the call Friday that their new baby was ready to adopt on Sunday, I found out on Monday). it was sort of an idea tester quilt, so it’s definitely not perfect, but hopefully its imperfections will make them feel like it can be used and spat up upon, etc, right? it’s all Kona and ROAR (both Robert Kaufman fabrics, ROAR is designed by the same person who did The Circus, which I LOVE), and I LOVE them, esp. in this colorway. so bright and cheery! I made this quilt just to test out...

Scrappy Radiance for the Bean

sooo, remember that Radiance baby blanket? here’s a bigger one, traditionally pieced (ie, not “quilted as I went”), basted, and quilted. i made it using a 1/2 yard bundle of 7 (i think) shades of pink/wine. I purposefully was a little sloppy/scrappy making this, sewing some pieces wrong side up, not perfectly squaring up the pieced blocks, etc, because I wanted to see if the quilting and washing would cover any flaws that beginners might make working with such silky fabrics. I quilted a different “flower” design in each block, per my daughter’s...

Lamqg holiday potholder swap

Posted by on Dec 12, 2012 in Finished Projects, gifts, holiday, LAMQG, Quilting, scraps, sewing | 1 comment

We had a holiday potholder swap at the last LAMQG meeting. I made 2 for my swap partner, 1 that I fussy cut and paper pieced, then appliqued and quilted: from the back: and one that was an experiment: I took the idea of a Somerset star and made it have more points: my partner wasn’t there, but hopefully she liked...
